Paula Flatow, Violin Specialist and Director of The Caedmon Music School
What was the path that led you to The Caedmon School?
When I moved to the Upper East Side years ago, I reached out to several private schools to offer lessons and the timing was perfect as Caedmon was looking for private music teachers at the time.
What inspired you to become a violin teacher/Head of Music School?
I'm trained as a professional violinist and was fortunate enough to have teachers that studied with the greatest violin pedagogues. I feel it's so important to share that knowledge and pass it down to others. My parents were so devoted to us having music lessons from the age of 6-18 and drove us into NYC from Long Island every Saturday to study at the Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music pre-college. I cherish my memories of meeting families and children from all walks of life who had a common love of music. It brings me such joy to inspire our Caedmon children to have music in their lives and help them get started on their musical journey.
What is it about Caedmon that excites you to come to school each morning?
I absolutely love working with children and seeing their faces light up when they are inspired!
Caedmon is like family to me and I feel embraced by so much support and encouragement of the violin program and the Music School.
What is your favorite Caedmon memory?
There have been so many over the years that it's honestly difficult to chose just one!
Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I've played for three Popes, at Billy Joel's Last Play at Shea, with Josh Groban, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Mathis, Deep Purple, and Foreigner, to name a few, and have had many appearances on TV series and movies. Those who know me well know that I love to fish!
If your Caedmon Story had a title, what would it be?
A musical day in the life....
