Matthew Stuart’s tenure as Caedmon’s Head of School began in 2012 and will conclude at the end of June 2025.

Under his visionary leadership, Caedmon emerged as a beacon of Progressive Montessori education in New York City. Matthew’s unwavering commitment to a personalized educational experience and nurturing the whole child has transformed Caedmon’s pedagogical approach, blending the Montessori philosophy of Early Childhood with innovative, evidence-based practices.

At Caedmon, Matthew expanded Montessori’s influence beyond the Early Childhood program, integrating its principles more deeply into the elementary classrooms.

He championed the use of didactic Montessori materials in lessons, creating a more cohesive and enriched learning experience for students.

Always striving for excellence, he established task forces to evaluate and to enhance key areas of the curriculum. Matthew also redefined professional development at Caedmon, empowering teachers and administrators to embrace lifelong learning through mission-centered conferences, workshops, and guest speakers.

In honor of Matthew’s enduring legacy and his passion for individual growth, the Matthew Stuart Education Fund will enrich and elevate the educational experiences of generations of Caedmon’s students and teachers as the school enters a new chapter in its more than sixty year journey.
