Jenni Arcieri, Third Grade Teacher

What was the path that led you to The Caedmon School?

After working at a few independent/parochial schools in the country, I set my sights on another independent school that matched my values: progressive education within some healthy structure, down-to-earth community members, and inclusivity.

When I had my initial phone call with Mr. Stuart over the phone, he happened to include that the school attracts genuine families and teachers, and I knew I wanted to be part of this school!

What inspired you to become a teacher?

I loved my elementary school teachers so much, I always felt that I wanted to do what they were doing! An aunt and uncle, with whom I am very close, were also teachers. I spent a lot of time with them, listening to their stories about students, and I saw the path ahead of me. I am also the oldest sibling and the oldest of all my cousins, so I think I took on a care-taking role from an early age. After almost a decade of baby-sitting, (The Babysitters' Club was my favorite series) it was very easy to declare my undergraduate major, Elementary Education!

What is it about Caedmon that excites you to come to school each morning?

I am excited to come to school every morning because I know the students are happy to be here. It makes me happy to see their smiling faces, hear their jokes, and stories. I also appreciate the solution-oriented mindset of the families and my co-workers. When we bump into challenges, everyone supports each other to find a way through.

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

As a teacher for 17 years, I have worked with 3rd through 5th graders. I especially love teaching Social Studies! In my free time, I am often at the beach at the Rockaways or the Jersey Shore. I also love reading fiction, doing yoga, and watching comedies on Netflix. A few years ago, I brought my love of the beach to a new level and took up surfing! It's one of the greatest thrills - but learning something so new as an adult is also one of the most challenging things I've done. Learning something new reminds me of the joys and struggles of being a student.
