Laura Capote, Receptionist/Registrar

What was the path that led you to The Caedmon School?

One of my best friends told me Caedmon needed a teacher for the nursery and I sent my resume, interviewed and was hired on the spot.

I left for a few years then Caedmon called me back! And I hope I never leave again!

What inspired you to become our Receptionist/Registrar?

After the pandemic there were so many changes everywhere and this opportunity opened and I took it because I saw a way to serve and use my other talents.

I do have vast experience in this area. I worked at John Jay College of Criminal Justice as the administrator of the Anthropology department. I love to interact with people and this position has given me a unique perspective on everybody’s wonderful personalities and great respect and inspiration.

I miss being in a class, but in the reception I interact with ALL the kids in the school, the staff and faculty, and I LOVE it!

What is it about Caedmon that excites you to come to school each morning?

I love my job and everybody at Caedmon. What excites me is coming and greeting every student and staff member and seeing how I can help them with each day.

There's always something going on in the school.I love to see student’s recitals, their art, their presentations or whatever event is happening. That gets me really excited.

What is your favorite Caedmon memory?

So many!  I loved and truly enjoyed watching (and documenting) the kids making the Auction Projects and going to the Spring Benefit for the first time and interacting with coworkers and parents in such a different setting.

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m originally from Mexico City. I speak English, Spanish and a bit of Portuguese. I’ve lived in NY for more than 20 years. I’m married and have a daughter who will soon become a teenager!! I’ve had my fair share of jobs which taught me so much and made me who I am professionally today. I worked in the restaurant business for many years,I worked as a translator adding captions for movies and documentaries; I’ve been an ESL teacher, an early childhood teacher, and a College Department Administrator,

I’m very happy knowing that my diverse background is useful in my position at Caedmon.

If your Caedmon Story had a title, what would it be?

What happens in Reception, stays in Reception
