"Many people say I'm the best women's soccer player in the world. I don't think so. And because of that, someday I just might be.” ~Mia Hamm

Dear Caedmon Community,

Today is a day full of accomplishments that must be celebrated!

It's the 100th Day of School (given two years of a pandemic, 100 days of in-person school is forever to be appreciated!). We celebrated in school at 9:00 a.m. with a spirited, school-wide ZOOM assembly. We sang the school song, and then relished the talents of two children from our Music School; a First grader played a piano solo and a Third grader sang beautifully. Then we cheered on the Caedmon Basketball Teams with a lively, music-booming video of our students in action on the courts. Caedmon is one of very few elementary schools with an actual basketball program and teams for both girls and boys from Third through Fifth grade. This was a brain-child of Andrew Kagan, ten years ago. Like all things at Caedmon, he had the idea and we said, yes, go for it!

Noted below, we have never tried a "giving match" in our pursuit of the Annual Fund. Yet, a very generous parent set it up, and the Caedmon community came through in force, with many folks adding to a gift they'd already given earlier in the year!

In the past two weeks, our "seniors," a remarkable group of Fifth grade students, received their various acceptances to ongoing independent schools. The schools are listed at the end of my message, and most of the children have made their decisions (and the process is not yet over, as a few are still waiting to hear from a waitlist). Perhaps most impressive is that this particular class has a number of children heading to public school, so this list reflects eleven of our students. The richness of Caedmon's academic program attests to our children's ability to have such incredible choices for their next schools.

And finally, perhaps you remember my granny-in-law, Tola Gonzales. I introduced her in the recent State of the School presentation. I am humbled and overjoyed to report that she has just recovered fully from her second bout of COVID-19!

Now, I think the most important thing about celebrating accomplishments is that it is done completely in a spirit of gratitude and humility. I am immensely proud and excited to share these various stories with you, but I hope you don't read this message as boasting.

I find it to be a recognition of the hard work, passion, and dedication that the community of Caedmon brings to every endeavor. THAT is what we celebrate!

Have a wonderful, restful, weekend. In the school world, both for the students and the adults, this long weekend cannot be better timed!

Matthew
